FAQ:

Q: Why do you require a year commitment?

A: We know, the first year is the most important! Most wellness experts agree that to make lasting lifestyle changes takes time. We want our students to know up front that we are serious about their health and wellness and we would like them to make the same commitment. We are also a private studio interested in creating a sense of community. Most of our students are serious about wellness for life. We believe that having a revolving door like a gym or health club only promotes the kind of yo-yo exercise program that adds no lasting value to anyone. Once a student has taken a year to learn and truly understand what we teach, they will have a tool for wellness for the rest of their lives.

Q: What style of yoga is taught at Rockhouse?

A: Yogic history reports that there are more than 8 million different yoga postures that may be used to meet different objectives. Like any art or endeavor yoga has thousands of different styles and hundreds of yogic philosophical approaches. Rockhouse yoga's signature power yoga class comes from several dynamic Vinyasa or flowing yoga styles and was developed to meet the needs of a modern American yoga student. Other Rockhouse classes follow the same modern scientifically supported approach to training.

Q: What are the Rockhouse Yoga instructor qualifications?

A: All Rockhouse Yoga instructors meet or exceed the 200 hour teacher training requirements recommended by most national yoga organizations. Rockhouse Yoga instructors also have extensive in-house training and are required to stay current with the most up to date research on all aspects of health and wellness.

Q: Does Rockhouse Yoga affiliate itself with any yoga organizations?

A: The Rockhouse Yoga & Wellness Center LLC is a private, non-denominational studio and does not align or endorse any specific national yoga spiritual or philosophical organization or association. We welcome students with open minds and hearts from any style of yoga.

Q: What's the most important thing to remember when practicing on my mat?

A: Breathe. Keep your breath flowing and continuous. Move into and out of any movement or posture with an inhale or an exhale. Never strain or hold your breath. Breath is the best gauge of your effort and with practice will give you all the information you need to make the best decision for your body; in the present moment.

Q: How do I know if I'm doing a pose correctly?

A: Mindfulness is yoga. Always listen to your body and respect its boundaries. Yoga should never be a painful experience. Work to remove your ego from your practice. It is often the case that we injure ourselves when we try to prove something to someone else or to ourselves instead of respecting and honoring our own capabilities. The human body has had millions of years to develop senses to let us know when we are moving in ways that are safe and healthy. A child may look very different in a posture than a senior, the only true measure of effectiveness comes from within. It is your journey and you know your body best. Learn to listen and appreciate yourself and respect and rejoice in what you can do, and you will never go wrong.

Q: What is a Rockhouse yogi?

A: Someone with a calm, open spirit who strives for optimum emotional and physical health & wellness.
