Yoga is...
Yoga means "union" and is an ancient body of knowledge that dates back more than 5000 years. What most people think of as "yoga" today is actually what is referred to in ancient traditions as asana or the practice of physical postures and poses. In addition to poses, some yoga classes like those offered at Rockhouse Yoga & Wellness Center, also include instruction in breath. A common misperception is that yoga is just about stretching. While stretching is involved, yoga is really about creating balance. The balance we help our students create at Rockhouse is the balance between the mind, the body, and the breath. With repeated practice, Rockhouse students begin to deepen their connection to their mind, body and breath and develop the physical, physiological and psychological strength to make lasting positive changes in their lives.
Different Pathways / Same Destination
People who practice yoga come from all walks of life and find their way to yoga for a variety of reasons. For some, yoga may be a pathway to personal understanding and self discovery while others are searching for a way to heal, stretch and strengthen damaged joints and muscles. Others are looking for a place to improve total health and wellness or to look and feel better. Regardless of the reasons for starting yoga everyone eventually finds their way to balance. Over time, Rockhouse students experience a state of harmony that comes from the practice of listening to their body, making corrections to their posture, building strength where it's needed and using the power of breath to calm their body and mind and fortify their sense of purpose.
Your Practice
Although Rockhouse instructors are leading you through the class, it is always "your practice". Yoga is an individual experience that develops over time. It is always evolving and changing, because you are always evolving and changing. Although the poses themselves don't change, your understanding and connection with them will. Imagine for a moment that you are taking a journey. Even though you have a guide, your experiences are your own. At Rockhouse Yoga & Wellness Center, we help to enhance that experience by guiding our students to breathe, move, balance and flow their way to ever higher levels of personal success. Our hope is that "your practice" will serve your life in ways that you couldn't imagine. Plan a day to visit our studio today and see what it means to feel great.
